The city of Fort Collins is located 60 miles (100 kilometers) north of Denver, the capital of the State of Colorado. The iconic Denver International Airport (DEN) is located east of the city of Denver and is a major U.S. airport. Fort Collins is a city of 186,000 inhabitants (2020). Colorado State University was established as part of the Land Grant Colleges in 1870. The University currently has an undergraduate and graduate student population of about 35,000.
